Muni Mornings: Local Option Tax – How to Adopt It & What Towns Are Doing with It
August 05, 2026
Join us for a coffee-style conversation on the local option tax. Rebecca Sameroff, Deputy Commissioner of the Vermont Department of Taxes, will walk through how municipalities can adopt the local option tax. She will highlight key steps and considerations in the process.
Following Rebecca’s overview, Kathleen Ramsay, Municipal Operations Specialist with VLCT, will share what Vermont towns that have a local option tax in place are doing with this revenue, such as supporting municipal services, funding capital projects, and supporting community priorities.
Susan Senning, Staff Attorney II with VLCT, will join the conversation to answer questions about town meeting warning articles related to the local option tax. She will also provide practical guidance on legal requirements, timing, and language.
