Public Records Requests and Law Enforcement: How to Respond Legally and Effectively
November 14, 2025
Municipal officials – particularly those working with or within law enforcement agencies – are often tasked with responding to public records requests, where compliance and accuracy are critical. This session will provide a clear, practical understanding of Vermont’s “Access to Public Records” law, focusing on how to manage requests that involve law enforcement records. Participants will learn best practices for receiving and responding to requests, meeting statutory timelines, applying exemptions, performing redactions, and drafting effective, legally compliant responses that balance transparency with the protection of sensitive information.
This training was recorded on November 14, 2025.
