Woodstock Fire/EMS Department
Summary
The EMS Supervisor manages weekend crews. The position manages FF/EMT both full and part-time employees. The EMS supervisor is also expected to respond to fire/EMS calls during their shift. The position performs all other duties as assigned by the Fire Chief. The staff member is expected to contribute to a positive work environment.
Supervision Received
• Works under the general supervision of the Fire Chief and Assistant Fire Chief.
Supervision Exercised
• Supervises firefighters and EMS staff.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
• Assists in maintaining and administering all EMS SIREN processes.
• Consults in the hiring of new staff, also helps with recruitment and retention of staff.
• Manages and maintains inventory per State and Federal regulations, ordering, rotating, and restocking all EMS supplies.
• Analyzes the effectiveness of current EMS training programs, determines future training requirements, and establishes and updates an annual plan of action to accommodate the EMS training needs of the Fire Department with the Assistant Fire Chief including but not limited to:
o Monthly drill schedule (with assigned staff)
o Special training events (mass casualty drills)
o Recruit academies
o Career and volunteer professional development opportunities
• Develops and delivers EMS training to responders consistent with the goals of the district.
• Assists in schedules, assigns, and delegates work and/or training to staff. Regularly evaluates work and training of staff personnel for competence, conformance and policies, procedures, guidelines, standards, and rules.
• Ensures that EMS training records are accurately maintained and submits training and attendance reports quarterly to the Fire Chief.
• Assists members through licensure processes to achieve desired certification levels.
• Ensures compliance with State and Federal regulations regarding licensing for vehicles and equipment.
• Renders prompt, efficient, and courteous service to promote goodwill between the district and the public.
• Annually audits the EMS training programs and individuals to ensure State and Federal mandated requirements are met.
• Other duties as assigned.
Other Duties
• Responds to medical emergency calls and provides basic first aid and advanced life support procedures such as oxygen therapy, CPR, and patient movement.
• Drives rescue vehicles and operates necessary medical equipment.
• Maintains the required EMS certification and meets the minimum EMS requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
• Five plus years of progressively responsible management and supervisory experience in the area(s) of assignment with demonstrated planning, administrative, leadership and management skills.
• Previous experience treating patients in a pre-hospital environment.
• Possess a valid Vermont or New Hampshire driver’s license or have the ability to acquire one.
• Paramedic.
• An understanding of the State of Vermont ambulance regulations and requirements.
• Experience with program implementation and EMS billing.
• Thorough knowledge of the Vermont EMS system at state and local levels
• Knowledge about EMS supplies needed for BLS & ALS apparatus.
Preferred Requirements
• Experience in a municipal Fire or EMS Department command position and membership in an appropriate professional organization(s) is preferred.
• CPR, State of VT, ACLS/PALS instructor.
• Firefighter I or II.
• NFPA Fire Officer 1.
• NFPA Instructor 1.
• NIMS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800.
• Residency is preferred but not required. A generous residency stipend is available if residency is within 20 minutes of Station 1.
Working Conditions
• Frequently required to sit, talk, hear, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms.
• Operate office equipment requiring repetitive arm/hand movements.
• Must frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds or more, operate radios, warning light and siren control heads, making fine, highly controlled muscular movements to adjust the position of a control mechanism.
• Work is done primarily in an office environment. However, the EMS supervisor may be required to conduct field inspections or participate in training exercises on the drill ground, attend emergency response or fire ground scene.
• Required to have the ability to hear a variety of warning devices and alarms, gas leaks, and/or calls for help.

• This is mainly a weekend position consisting of 48 hours with flexibility on schedule and hours
