- Description
The City of Rutland anticipates filling one or more positions within the Fire Department on or about mid-March 2024. Applications will be accepted by the Chief Engineer, William Lovett, until the close of business (4:00 pm) on Monday, March 4, 2024. An application is considered complete when it includes a City of Rutland application, candidate resume and any other pertinent information (trainings and certifications). Education Requirements:
HS Diploma or GED - minimum
Knowledge/Training in Emergency First Aid
Fire Fighter II accredited certification
Certified to Haz-Mat Operations level
Must live within 5 miles of the fire station or be able to meet that requirement within 365 days of being hired
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
Must be able to hear and understand oral communication in variable conditions ( extreme stress/emergencies and during routine drills and regular maintenance)
Must be able to stand, sit, squat, bend, climb stairs or ladders while hauling heavy equipment
Must be able to regularly lift/move objects weighing 20-50 pounds and, on occasion, move objects weighing 50 - 100+ pounds.
Must be able to wear and operate SCBA - self contained breathing apparatus
Must be able to work in all types of extreme Vermont weather conditions (extreme heat, frigid temperatures, etc.)
