The Town of Rumford, Maine seeks an experienced, collaborative, and forward- thinking full-time Town Manager.
Located in the foothills of the White Mountains in the River Valley area of Oxford County and the site of Penacook Falls, "the grandest cataract in New England" where the Androscoggin River drops 177 feet over solid granite. It has a yearlong population of approximately 5900. Rumford takes advantage of its and the region's many economic associated assets. Rumford has a public infrastructure that is well maintained. Its roads, sewer and water systems have the capacity for growth. It has business parks and other areas waiting to be developed. It has a viable historic downtown area with many historic structures and vacancies for business expansion. Outdoor recreation and sports are important to those that have lived and still live in Rumford today. Hosmer Field and other town parks are used and appreciated by residents and visitors. There is Black Mountain of Maine known for its cross-country racing venue, downhill skiing, and tube runs at reasonable cost. The Veteran's Administration has recently built a clinic located next to the Historic Island and the University College at Rumford/Mexico which is part of the University of Maine system.
The five-member Selectboard is seeking an individual to oversee 60 full-time employees. The annual operating budget for the Town is $10M.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated skills in budget preparation, personnel management, and municipal government experience. The Town Manager will work collaboratively with the Selectboard, providing them with the information they need to make informed decisions; and collaborating with the Economic Developer's Office to bring additional business growth. Candidates should possess effective communication skills, and the ability to effectively oversee large municipal grants and Federally Funded projects.
The Town of Rumford requires a bachelor's degree in business/public administration or related field (Advance Degree Preferred); 5-10 years of progressive experience in municipal government, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
