Town of Swanzey seeks Applicants for Planning Department
The Town of Swanzey (pop. 7,200) located in southwestern New Hampshire’s Monadnock Region seeks applications from candidates with experience or interest in planning and land use to work full-time in the Town’s Planning Department. The Planning Department works under the general direction of the Town Administrator and the Board of Selectmen to support and coordinate the planning, zoning, code enforcement, and economic development activities of the Town.
Swanzey is the largest town in Cheshire County, borders the City of Keene, and is the home of the Dillant Hopkins Airport, four historic covered bridges, and five distinct villages. The combination of a country setting, areas with municipal utilities, and easy access to Keene have positioned Swanzey as a growing and dynamic community. The Town has recently approved several significant business/commercial and multi-family housing projects and expects continued growth over the next decade. Priorities for the Planning Department include working with the Planning Board to implement the Town’s recently updated Master Plan, recruiting new and retaining existing businesses, and improving the Town’s various ordinances and codes.
The ideal candidate to join our team will have a degree in planning, community development, environmental studies, public administration, geography, or a closely related field and government, regional planning, or land use experience. Desired skills include strong written and oral communication skills, a positive attitude, leadership ability, project management, grant writing and administration, and proficiency in or ability to learn Axis GIS software. The successful candidate will need to be able to work as part of a team and balance long and short term projects while meeting strict deadlines.
This full-time position will pay a competitive salary dependent on experience and qualifications. Benefit package includes health and dental insurance (or an opt out payment), paid time off, and 7% contribution towards a retirement account. Work in the Planning Department requires periodic attendance at night meetings, which may be offset by other schedule flexibility.
