Education, Training and Experience
- Must have Commercial driver’s license Class A or B
- High school education or GED.
- Must comply with US DOT Drug & Alcohol as required by 49 CFR Part 655 or 49 CFR Part 382 and 49 CFR Part 40.
- Ability to operate a grader and/or excavator preferred
- Knowledge of highway construction procedures and methods.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance, repair, and construction work on town roadways and facilities, including but not limited to: installation and maintenance of culverts; screening and storage of sand and salt; washing bridges; patching and/or paving of roadways; mowing roadside areas; line and stripe painting; street sweeping; and other duties as assigned.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Ability to complete projects requiring strenuous physical labor.
- Operate hand tools, heavy equipment, light trucks, plow trucks, power tools, and other highway department equipment as directed by the foreman.
- Perform winter snow and ice removal on town roads and sidewalks.
- Use chainsaw and other tools to cut brush and trees along roadside.
- Perform regular and special maintenance on town equipment and vehicles as directed by the foreman.
- Respond to calls for assistance from foreman on 24-hour basis, as requested.
- Hours: Monday-Friday 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Beginning of October to beginning of May, and Monday-Thursday 6:00a.m. – 4:30p.m. beginning of May to end of September, with seasonal hours and overtime as needed.
Pay is based on experience.

Physical Demands / Work Environment
This is a physically demanding, outdoor job requiring the use of hands to operate equipment, and the ability to stand, talk, and hear. The employee is often required to walk; sit for long periods of time; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in inclement weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is often exposed to wet and / or humid conditions and vibration.
