SECTION II. OBJECTIVE/PURPOSE
OBJECTIVE/PURPOSE
The Town of Bradford is seeking a dynamic, part-time Recreation Director to lead and energize our recreation department. The successful candidate will bring creativity, organization and enthusiasm to the programs, events and activities that connect our community.
Annually, the department hosts seasonal events, coordinates ongoing recreational programs and responsible for the planning, development and care of town parks and recreational facilities. The Director will strengthen and expand existing offers while identifying new opportunities to better serve our multi-generational residents and visitors.
In conjunction with the volunteer Parks and Recreation Commission, the Director will provide both short-and long-term vision for the department, focusing on innovation, community engagement and maximizing the use of town parks and its’ facilities.
SECTION III. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director works collaboratively with other town departments, local organizations and community partners to deliver safe, inclusive and engaging activities for children, teens and adults. The position also works closely with the Bradford Parks and Recreation Commission (BPRC), the Town Treasurer and the Town Administrator, and reports directly to the Selectboard, providing regular updates, fresh ideas and forward-thinking leadership.
Program Development and Administration:
· Plan, implement, and evaluate a variety of recreational programs and activities for all age groups in the Bradford community, ensuring offers reflect community interests and needs.
· Recruit, engage, train, and support volunteers and staff to expand program opportunities and strengthen community involvement.
· Promote programs and events through the town website, social media, and other communication channels to increase awareness and participation.
· Coordinate and collaborate with town departments, schools, nonprofits, and local organizations to support and co-host community events.
· Maintain inventory of departmental supplies and equipment.
Clerical and Financial:
· Develop, manage, and monitor the annual Parks & Recreation budget in collaboration with the BPRC and Selectboard.
· Process purchase orders, track expenses and revenue, and ensure compliance with town financial policies.
· Identify and support fundraising efforts and grant opportunities to enhance programming and services.
· Coordinate and administer grants, including reporting, compliance, volunteer coordination, contractor oversight, and communication with partners and funders.
Facility Use and Coordination:
· Manage facility use requests and scheduling for programs and events, working with schools, town officials, and community groups.
· Monitor Park conditions in coordination with maintenance staff, volunteers and the BPRC; report safety or maintenance concerns.
· Coordinate with contractors for specialized work, including obtaining quotes, securing approvals, and overseeing project completion.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
· Knowledge of community recreation programming to include development, implementation and evaluation for all ages.
· Strong interpersonal, organizational, communication, and time management skills, with the ability to work independently and adapt schedules as needed.
· Experience with budgeting, grant coordination, and project management, including planning and executing initiatives from start to finish.
· Ability to develop engaging communications, including promotional materials and social media content.
· First Aid/CPR certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).
· Additional experience in facilities/park maintenance, reporting, or presentations is preferred
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
· Experience working with and supervising volunteers, instructors, and community partners.
· Experience with report writing and presentations is preferred but not required.
· Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred; relevant experience will be considered
· Successful completion of a background check required.
TOOLS/TECHNOLOGY
· Experience with Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is helpful
· Responsible for providing updates and information on Town Web Page
· Coordinate Zoom meetings
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS
· Requires the ability to prioritize multiple pressing issues and make presentations to the Selectboard and the public that distill technical information into concepts and terms that are succinct and easily understood by them.
· Demonstrated ability to handle stressful conditions that include competing priorities, multiple constituents, and tight deadlines.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS
· Duties are primarily in office setting. Some outdoor events and activities will be required.
· Some night and early morning work may be required depending on events and activities.
· Travel to training or meetings within the state of Vermont is required several times a year.
COMPENSTATION AND BENEFITS
· Part-time, 20 hours or less per week. Hourly wage between $18-$23 depending on qualifications
