What You’ll Do:

 

Police Officers perform a variety of law enforcement duties to preserve public safety, protect life and property, enforce federal, state, and local laws, and foster positive relationships within the community. Officers are expected to exercise sound judgment, professionalism, and compassion while responding to emergencies and providing exceptional public service.

 

Essential Duties of a St. Johnsbury Police Officer include:

 

·       Patrolling the community by cruiser and on foot.

·       Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service.

·       Investigate criminal and traffic incidents.

·       Enforce Vermont laws and local ordinances.

·       Prepare detailed reports and maintain accurate records.

·       Conduct traffic enforcement and crash investigations.

·       Make arrests when appropriate and testify in court.

·       Work collaboratively with community members, businesses, schools, and partner agencies.

·       Participate in community policing initiatives and crime prevention programs. Perform other related law enforcement duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

 

Applicants must:

 

·       Be at least 18 years of age.

·       Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.

·       Hold a valid driver’s license.

·       Ability to meet the standards established by the Vermont Criminal Justice Council (VCJC)

·       Successfully pass a comprehensive background investigation, psychological evaluation, medical examination, and drug screening.

·       Strong communication, decision-making, and interpersonal skills.

 

Certified Vermont Officers and out-of-state certified officers eligible for reciprocity are encouraged to apply.
