Wastewater Operator Position
The Town of St. Johnsbury is seeking a motivated and dependable Wastewater Operator to join our Wastewater Department. This position plays a vital role in protecting public health and the environment by assisting with the operation, maintenance, and monitoring of the Town’s wastewater collection and treatment systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Operate and monitor wastewater treatment processes and equipment.
· Perform routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs of pumps, motors, valves, generators, and related equipment.
· Collect samples and conduct laboratory testing as required.
· Monitor and record operational data to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
· Inspect and maintain sewer collection system infrastructure, including pump stations and sewer lines.
· Assist with snow removal, grounds maintenance, and general facility upkeep.
· Maintain accurate operational and maintenance records.
· Participate in an on-call rotation and work occasional evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Qualifications:
· High school diploma or equivalent required.
· Experience in wastewater treatment, utility operations, mechanical maintenance, or a related field preferred.
· Vermont Wastewater Operator Certification preferred; candidates without certification must be willing and able to obtain certification within two years.
· Basic knowledge of pumps, motors, electrical systems, and mechanical equipment.
· Ability to work safely in confined spaces and around wastewater treatment equipment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
· Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, regulations, and operating procedures.
· Basic computer skills and ability to maintain electronic records.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
· Commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and public service.
Compensation and Benefits:
The Town of St. Johnsbury offers a competitive wage based on qualifications and experience, starting at $23.00 an hour, along with an excellent benefits package including:
