The Town of Barre is seeking a highly motivated and organized individual for an Assistant Town Clerk position. This position provides administrative and office work support to the Town Clerk and serves as a key point of contact for residents. It is responsible for maintaining official records, assisting with elections, and delivering courteous and accurate public service. Some of the essential responsibilities and duties are providing front-line customer service in person, by phone, and via email. Assist in maintaining and preserving official municipal records. For elections the primary responsibility is voter registration, early voting ballots, and assisting with the management of the voter checklist. Water billing to ensure accurate and timely generation of water bills on a quarterly basis. Prepares final meter read calculations. Maintains customer records and communication for meter malfunctions. Dog licensing, assisting public with pet licensing, maintaining accurate files and records, and performing annual mailings. Performing other related duties assigned by the Town Clerk. Minimum Qualifications are a high school diploma or equivalent. 1-2 years of administrative, office work, or customer service experience or a combination of education and years of experience is preferred. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, proficiency with standard office software, ability to handle confidential information with discretion and strong communication and interpersonal skills.
This is a full-time (37.50) hours per week position with an hourly wage starting at $21.14 to $21.77, possibly higher depending upon prior experience. A longevity bonus of .10 per hour per year after 1 year of employment is also available. Our generous benefit package includes health, dental, and vision insurance. Retirement plans through the Vermont Municipal Employees Retirement System (VMERS) as well as an option to participate in a 457 Deferred Compensation.
