Town of Townshend is seeking a qualified applicant to fill the Town Treasurer position
Treasurer position is an appointed position to fill out the remainder of the 2026 term (expires 3/3/27). There is an expectation of 25 – 30 hours pers week.
In Vermont, municipal treasurers are responsible for the custody, investment, and disbursement of town funds, managing cash flow, and keeping accurate financial records. Key statutory obligations include receiving/disbursing funds, reporting to, work closely with, and investing with selectboard approval, settling with auditors within 60 days of fiscal year-end, tax collection, and prompt deposit of funds.
Processing and posting cash receipts, posting journal entries in the General Ledger, assisting in property tax collecting and administration, processing and posting account payable transactions, processing payroll, assorted reconciliations, tracking grant financials, provide financial documents required for grants, managing capital assets and long-term debt, and financial reporting as needed.
Software includes Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word programs and various NEMRC Fund Accounting modules. Knowledge of fund accounting is preferred.
