Job Overview
We’re looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Town Clerk to play a central role in supporting the daily operations of our municipality. In this position, you’ll serve as the official custodian of public records, oversee the preparation and maintenance of essential documentation, and ensure that government processes remain transparent and accessible to the community.

meetings, assist residents with a wide range of municipal services, and help

- Maintain accurate records of town board meetings, ordinances, resolutions, and official documents with meticulous attention to detail.
- Manage the town’s filing system, ensuring all documents are properly organized, stored, and easily accessible for reference or legal purposes.
- Respond promptly to inquiries from residents, businesses, and Town employees via phone, email, or in person with professionalism and courtesy.
- Oversee voter registration processes and election procedures to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Handle incoming calls with excellent phone etiquette, while providing outstanding customer support.
- Support administrative functions including data entry, proofreading official documents, managing incoming correspondence, and preparing reports.
- Highly organized with strong time-management and multitasking abilities
- Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, Vermont statutes related to Town Clerk duties
- Willing to seek, receive, and incorporate feedback while following established Town policies and procedures
Responsibilities
The Town Clerk’s duties are defined by statute (24 V.S.A. Chapter 35) and include:
- Maintaining, indexing, and preserving all official Town records
- Serving as the Town’s Chief Election Officer and administering all elections in compliance with state and federal law
- Acting as Registrar of Vital Records
- Serving as custodian of public records, ensuring their security, preservation, and accessibility
- Managing the collection of statutory fees and supporting municipal operations
Training and guidance will be provided to support successful performance in this role.
Requirements
- Proven experience in office management or administrative roles within a municipal or governmental setting is highly preferred.
- Strong computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets), and data entry skills.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask effectively in a busy environment.
- Demonstrated customer service skills with professional phone etiquette and the ability to handle sensitive information discreetly.
- Previous clerical experience involving filing systems, proofreading documents, calendar management, and record keeping is essential.
- Strong time management skills coupled with the ability to prioritize tasks efficiently under tight deadlines.
- Ability to learn new systems, processes, and statutory requirements efficiently
Job Type: Full-time Pay: From $49,400 per year
