Description

Position Function: This position performs skilled duties in grounds maintenance for the Town of Royalton with changing seasonal priorities. Responsible for mowing, repairs, building maintenance in the summer. In the winter they will report to the Highway Department to plow roads, sidewalks, and other winter maintenance. Year-round custodial and janitorial tasks of town buildings. 

 

Buildings and Grounds Technician Duties: 

1. Perform winter sidewalk maintenance operations including snow blowing, sanding and salting operations 

2. Operate lawnmower and other grounds maintenance equipment 

3. Year-round custodial tasks at the Royalton Town Office, Academy Building, and Town Garage to include sweeping, mopping, and cleaning 

4. Collects and removes trash and litter from Town Green 

5. Performs basic carpentry on structures such as fences, gates, signage, and benches 

6. Performs preventive maintenance on assigned tools and equipment 

7. Operate equipment while following safety procedures 

8. Perform other tasks deemed necessary for town operations. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 

1. High school graduate (or equivalent) with at least one year of experience working as groundskeeper or custodian 

2. Must be able to regularly lift 50lbs, occasionally 100lbs., bend, stretch, stand for extended periods of time, climb stairs, reach, twist, sit and/or walk 

3. Excellent problem solving and professional communication skills 

4. Reliable, punctual, and attention to detail 

5. Live locally, and be available for nights, weekends and/or daytime call outs 

6. Basic carpentry and mechanical abilities preferred 

7. Pass a background check as well as routine drug tests 

8. Willing to acquire a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
