Position: EMS Officer III
Department: Rescue
Classification: Full time/hourly/non-exempt/AFSCME Union Bargaining Unit
Shifts: (3) 12-hour shifts per week, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays. Eligible for overtime.
Salary: AEMT ($30.11-$36.70) | Paramedic ($34.00 - $41.45) | Placement upon the pay scale is determined by level of experience. View full scale/contract on town HR website.
Summary
Provides emergency pre-hospital patient care and transportation within their scope of practice and overseas delivery of patient care as provided by other crew members. Assists in improving processes and procedures and helps to guide development of protocols and procedures to further the goals of Milton Rescue and the Town of Milton. Participates in the development of initiatives to motivate staff and volunteers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Responds to emergencies, provides pre-hospital care within their scope of practice
• Ensures crew compliance with established Department and District 3 policies, guidelines, protocols, and procedures, identifies and corrects any deficiencies
• Participates in Quality Assurance/Quality Insurance for all Milton Rescue PCRs
• Assumes responsibility and accountability for their shift as a leader of the department
• Provides leadership and guidance to members of the department
• Inspects and cleans station and ambulances as needed
• Additional primary responsibilities will include Training Officer, Operations Officer, Supply Officer, or Membership Coordinator
• Other related duties as assigned
Skills and Abilities
• Excellent verbal communication skills and comprehension; ability to follow orders with exactness
• Ability to function optimally in a non-structured, often difficult, constantly changing environment
• Proven critical reasoning skills
• Excellent judgement, ability to prioritize complex decisions, ability to act quickly in the best interest of a patient and personal/patient safety
Minimum Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Valid Driver’s License
• NIMS 100, 200, 700
• An active Nationally Registered Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) or higher
• An active State of Vermont EMS license
• Minimum of 2 years of experience as an ALS lead provider
