The Village of Bellows Falls is seeking a skilled, motivated, and collaborative professional to serve as our next Assistant Chief Wastewater Operator for our Class IV Wastewater Treatment Facility. This is an exciting opportunity to step into a leadership role within a department that is actively strengthening operations, improving systems, and building a strong, supportive team culture. We are looking for someone who wants to be one of the key leaders in defining the next chapter at the Bellows Falls Wastewater facility.
The Assistant Chief Wastewater Operator plays an important leadership role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the Town’s wastewater treatment facility and collection system. Working closely with the Chief Operator and Municipal leadership, this position helps guide daily operations, support staff development, and maintain regulatory compliance with Vermont DEC and federal standards by:
· Supporting and helping to oversee daily plant and collection system operations
· Assisting with maintaining NPDES permit compliance and regulatory reporting
· Providing technical guidance and mentorship to operators and staff
· Helping coordinate maintenance, process control, and capital improvements
· Promoting a culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork
· Participating in long-term planning to strengthen department performance
The Assistant Chief serves as acting Chief Operator in their absence.
What We’re Looking For
· Vermont Class III or IV Wastewater Operator Certification (Class IV preferred)
· At least 5 years of wastewater treatment experience
· Strong process knowledge and regulatory understanding
· A collaborative leadership style and steady problem-solving approach
· Commitment to professionalism and continuous improvement
· Supervisory experience is preferred but not required for candidates who demonstrate leadership capability and initiative.
Compensation and Benefits
Hourly Range: $32.00 – $40.00, depending on qualifications and experience.
