The Brandon Police Department is currently recruiting and accepting applications for the position of Patrol Sergeant. The ideal candidate shall be Level III certified in the State of Vermont (lateral transfer), or for out-of-state candidates, have a comparable certification in their respective state to obtain an academy waiver in Vermont. Candidates must also be a full-time certified officer for at least 3 years prior to application. Qualified candidates with an associate’s degree, bachelor’s degree, or master’s degree in criminal justice or related field from an accredited college/university will be given preference. Candidates who also hold certification as instructors or who have specialized training (FTO, Firearms Instructor, Death Investigator, UOF Instructor, etc.…) will also be given preference in the selection process.
The Brandon Police Department has many opportunities for specialty assignments such as drone pilot, traffic/H.E.A.T. enforcement, Use of Force Instructor, Firearms Instructor, Taser Instructor, Death Investigator, as well as numerous opportunities for additional training in various law enforcement disciplines. We are an agency that values training and providing ample opportunities for our officers to better themselves and to follow their individual interests in policing.
All uniforms and equipment are supplied to our officers by the department.
Requirements for this position are possession of a valid motor vehicle license and certification as a full-time (Level III) officer by the Vermont Criminal Justice Council and/or the ability to obtain certification within 3 months of hire. When fully staffed, the Brandon Police Department has 5 full-time officers, 1 level II part-time officer, and a full-time administrative assistant.
The Town of Brandon offers a competitive benefits package including medical, dental, vision plans in addition to retirement through VMERS C. This position is a union position with a starting salary of $37.49. Applicants with prior supervisory experience are eligible to start at a higher pay grade commensurate with former time in-grade. Additional hourly pay for night differential, on-call pay, and overtime opportunities are available as well.
