The Town of Chester is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Director of Finance. The Director of Finance oversees and manages the financial and accounting functions of the Town of Chester. This role safeguards the Town assets and ensures compliance with GAAP and GASB. The Director provides financial analysis to support the Town Manager and Selectboard goals, manages cash flow reporting, and leads the supervision and performance of a small Finance team. In addition, this position partners with the Town Manager and department managers to ensure accurate and timely reporting and operational support. The Director of Finance should expect to be hands-on in daily operations.
Applicants must possess strong financial acumen and knowledge of governments and governmental accounting. Technical expertise in general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll is required, as well as knowledge of taxation, Department of Labor regulations, insurance, and employee benefits. Applicant must also possess strong analytical, judgment, and decision-making skills.
Qualification requirements include a Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field (or comparable years of service) with 3-5 years of experience in Government accounting, preferably in Vermont. Salary range is $80,000 to $90,000 per year based on qualifications in addition to a comprehensive benefits package.
