Police Clerk/Dispatcher
The Town of Barre Police Department is seeking a highly organized, dependable, and community-oriented individual to serve as a Police Clerk / Dispatcher. This dual role position provides vital administrative support to the department and acts as the primary contact for the police department, dispatching police, emergency services, etc.
Key responsibilities include answering and routing non-emergency calls and occasionally emergency calls. Assisting visitors at the police station. Maintaining accurate records, reports, and logs including incident reports, citations, and case files. Process police reports, background checks, and public records requests. Handle data entry into state and federal law enforcement systems. Maintain office supplies and equipment; coordinate repairs as needed. Maintain minor IT duties. Assist with administrative tasks such as scheduling, filing, and correspondence. Receive and dispatch emergency and non-emergency calls for police and other municipal services. Prioritize calls and communicate effectively with officers in the field. Monitor police radio channels and maintain accurate dispatch logs. Use CAD (Computer-Aided Dispatch) and NCIC/VCIC systems. Contact appropriate agencies (fire, EMS, utilities) when needed.
Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent. One year of clerical, administrative, or dispatch experience is preferred. Ability to pass a background check and obtain CJIS (Criminal Justice Information Services) certification. Strong communication, multitasking, and organizational skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality, safeguarding sensitive and private information from unauthorized disclosure. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard office equipment. The ability to remain calm under pressure and respond professionally in emergencies.
This is a full-time (40 hour) per week position with an hourly minimum wage of $23.64 to a maximum hourly wage of $26.97, depending upon experience. A longevity bonus of .03 per hour per year after 1 year of employment is also available. Our generous benefit package includes health, dental, and vision insurance.
