The Town of Thetford is in the Upper Valley region shared by Vermont and New Hampshire. Thetford is a diverse community, and our Police Department enjoys great support from the community and levels of local government. We have a good working relationship with schools and businesses. Thetford is approximately 44 square miles and has a population of just over 2700 residents.
We are seeking full-time applicants for the position of Police Officer. The ideal candidate will currently possess VCJC Level III certification (lateral transfer). Individuals who possess VCJC Level II certification who are close to advancing their certification or have obtained an equivalent certification in another state will also be considered. Out of state candidates will be required to complete a waiver program to obtain VCJC Level III certification.
The successful candidate will be part of a team of dedicated officers who provide high-quality professional police services to our community. The candidate will be required to work rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays. Overtime may be required. Details are available at a higher detail rate throughout the year.
Successful applicants must:
• Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Maintain a high level of physical fitness
• Be at least 21 years old
• Possess a high school diploma (GED or equivalent) or college degree
• Be a US citizen
• Have a desire to serve others
• Be drug free (including marijuana)
• Pass written and psychological testing
• Undergo an extensive background investigation
The Town of Thetford offers a competitive benefit package which includes medical, dental, and vision plans. Retirement is the VMERS D plan with an optional 457 plan. The pay rate is commensurate with qualifications and experience, ranging from $26.43 to $36.96 before incentives, education, and shift differential. This is a Union position.
